PEKKO Privacy Policy
Summary
The PEKKO app has no internet access, no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Notification content you choose to forward goes only from your phone to your own PEKKO keychain over an encrypted Bluetooth connection. We (the developer) never receive, store, sell or share it.
What the app accesses
- Notifications — only after you agree to the in-app disclosure AND turn on Notification Access in Android Settings. Depending on your choices, the app reads the app name, title and text of: incoming-call notifications (caller name or number as shown by your phone app), messages from your default SMS app, and notifications from other apps if you turn on “Other apps”.
- Your PEKKO’s Bluetooth address, so the app can reconnect to it.
- Your app settings (face, brightness, forwarding switches).
How it is used
Forwarded notifications are shortened (app name 12, title 24, text 100 characters; English letters and numbers only) and sent immediately to your paired PEKKO so it can display them. If PEKKO is briefly out of range, up to 5 items are held in the phone’s memory for at most 60 seconds, then discarded. Notification content is never written to storage, logs or backups. If you turn off “Show message content”, only “New message” or “Incoming call” is sent.
Where it goes
Only to the PEKKO keychain you paired. PEKKO keeps the latest notification in its memory just to show it on screen; it is replaced by the next one and erased when PEKKO powers off. Nothing is sent to us or to any third party. The app does not request the internet permission, so it cannot send data online.
Stored on your phone
Your PEKKO’s Bluetooth address and your settings are stored in the app’s private storage. Android cloud backup is disabled for this app. Uninstalling the app or tapping “Forget” removes them.
Security
PEKKO pairs with a 6-digit code shown on its screen (Bluetooth LE Secure Connections with bonding). PEKKO only accepts data over the encrypted, paired link.
Permissions
- Nearby devices (Bluetooth connect): to pair and talk to PEKKO.
- Notifications: to show the “PEKKO connection” status notification.
- Notification Access (optional, enabled by you in Settings): to forward notifications.
- Foreground service / start at boot / companion device: to keep PEKKO connected in the background.
The app does not request SMS, call log, contacts, location, microphone, camera or accessibility permissions.
Third-party code
The app is built with Flutter, the Nordic Semiconductor Android BLE Library and the permission_handler plugin. These run on your phone only and do not send data to anyone.
Your choices
Turn off “Forward notifications” in the Alerts tab at any time, turn off individual categories, hide message content, or revoke Notification Access in Android Settings. Tap “Forget” to unpair. Holding both PEKKO buttons while powering it on clears its pairing.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at https://pekko.store/privacy-policy and in the app. Questions: pekkokeychain@gmail.com.
